Modern Combat 5: Blackout – War Game for Android & iOS
We already have among us and exclusively Modern Combat 5: Blackout, one of the best shooters for mobile devices hand in hand with Gameloft. It’s a spectacular game that leaves its predecessor Zero Hour “with the job”.
And that’s because this time the French company has set out to exploit the hardware in which it runs the title to deliver a video game that could leave anyone thrown on laptops in diapers and beyond. The video game will be on sale on tomorrow’s Android and iOS systems at low prices.
Story
The proposition of Modern Combat 5 brings us to manage Caydan Phoenix, a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps in his fight against the World Liberation Army, which is terrorizing everyone. At first, he’s sent to Venice as a member of the special forces sent by Gilman Security. During the course of the adventure, we’ll have the invaluable assistance at all times of Sophie “Roux” Daviau, his commanding officer. This will give clear instructions to our protagonist, who will also serve as a tutorial for the game.
Game Chapters
Modern Combat 5: Blackout is divided into five chapters, covering locations such as Venice, Tokyo, and San Marcos. Each of them, except the first one, has four short phases of around 10 minutes maximum duration, which will serve as the Campaign mode in this Gameloft shooter.
A very interesting option is that the video game alone starts downloading the first and second chapters so that we can later select which chapter we want to download, thus saving space on our mobile devices. In addition to this Campaign mode, the most complete could not miss either online multiplayer or events that will take place soon Gameloft in the game.
Gameplay
In each mission, we have the chance to earn stars by completing the various requirements they propose. There are always 3, and they range from eliminating certain opponents, to rescuing hostages or even shooting cowardly enemies fleeing our bullets. These stars also apply to Special Operations, a single-player game mode in which, as a rule, we’re invited to leave no enemy standing in any of the previously visited scenarios.
In Campaign mode, we can also see some specific multiplayer missions where, once again, we’re asked to achieve certain objectives. This time, however, Gameloft has decided to keep the missions short to keep the player a little less tense than usual and enjoy the action that accompanies the game even more. As a decision, this isn’t entirely bad, but it is striking that some of them last just five minutes with simple route scenarios.
Characters
Modern Combat 5: Blackout this time four new character classes to choose from Soldier, Tracker, Sniper, and Gunner. The first two will be available for use from practically the first minute, while the rest will need to raise our character’s level to unlock them.
Each has its own characteristics. For example, the Tracker will reveal the position of enemies to his platoon members, while the Gunner will be fed powerful weapons and have the characteristic of being able to heal himself.
As in its predecessor, weapons will be unlocked over time according to certain requirements, and will be fully customizable. Drones will once again have their own special role, as a couple more have been added to the offering than we knew about.
Multiplayer
If there’s one thing to highlight that made us fall in love, it’s the brilliant multiplayer mode that Modern Combat 5: Blackout treasures between their bytes. Once again Gameloft has put all the meat on the grill and offers us an incredible online experience loaded with content that will extend the game’s duration to infinity and beyond. All Against All, Vip, Battle of Platoons, Capture the Flag, or Battle for Teams will be the modalities that this little video game includes but is super fun.
VIP Mode
The most interesting (though already well-known) is undoubtedly VIP mode, a game mode that forces our VIP member to be protected from the opponent while trying to bite the ground out from under him. In the Battle of Platoons, we’ll have to join a platoon (Clan) to play with them and fight against other clans.
To communicate with our friends, Platoon or other users, we can use the new chat feature, which also works instantly, allowing us in turn to add those present to our friends list and send private messages. In short, 3-on-3 battles work well without lag (at least proven so far), are fast and don’t diminish game performance at any time.
Graphics
The graphical improvements are obvious and make the most of the possibilities offered by the various mobile devices. In fact, and as we’ve already said, the video game is surely the second most powerful FPS at the moment on laptops behind PS Vita’s Killzone Mercenary.
To play the game, we used an iPhone 5S and the truth is that the game didn’t stop at any point, and we can assure you that there are scenes in which it wouldn’t have been surprising if its frames fell below normal.
For example, at the start of the game, there’s a very interesting chase where we see highly detailed water, big scenarios, explosions, and various types of enemies, all at the same time. As we know, Modern Combat 5: Blackout’s graphics options will adapt to the machine we’re playing on.
For example, on a slightly fairer Android device, the title won’t feature water splashes or a better fire effect on the barrel of our weapons.
Sound
The sound aspect is exquisite, it has different voices for its characters, several languages depending on the location we visit, and audio quality that’s more than remarkable. Of course, the game is perfectly translated into multiple languages. Musically, there’s nothing to underline or reproach. Basically, the game has a few melodies that go completely unnoticed in the pursuit of direct action.
Modern Combat 5: Blackout – A Mobile War Game Worth Playing
Modern Combat 5: Blackout is an impressive low-cost mobile and tablet shooter that will hook even the most painted. A little marvel that Gallic company Gameloft has managed to slow-cook in its studies, resulting in a game that, while its campaign may only last a couple of hours, its multiplayer will captivate everyone.
It still seems impossible to us that a portable device like a mobile could cherish so much graphical and playable power. However, it must be said that beyond the multiplayer mode (up to 6 players), this is a title that can only last a few hours, that its missions are ultra-short, and that once finished it leaves us wanting more. And yet, at a mere 6 dollars for Modern Combat 5: Blackout, it’s a safe bet no matter where you look.
