War games: Army using Video Games

The U.S. Army has long recruited candidates through war video games. An equally unethical and effective way to get 13-year-olds to start thinking about a military career.

I don’t know if you remember the mythical scene from the film Torrent in which a goofball and the very young Javier Cámara remain captivated, aliphatic and hallucinated revolver Flame of 38 as Santiago Segura’s character falls, by a shot, on his gate. After the motivated child’s excited description of the weapon, Torrente asks, “Do you like guns? Do you want to try it? “. And, to which the inebriated young man responds affirmatively, the foolish arm of the law compensates for the affirmation with a cookie on the neck, and the imperative: “Well, buy yourself one! “.

Changes Since 1998

Far from the silly scene, we can witness a reality that has changed a lot since its premiere in 1998. Zagales are moved by guns and the power that comes with them has always been. Famous is the quote: “God created men; Samuel Colt made them equal,” referring to the gunsmith who designed the Wild West’s most versatile revolver.

And, needless to say, this equality is a fight for which barbilampi bravado is easily seduced. Only the movies came out of the Wild West. Amen to some outlaws taking refuge in the Congress of Deputies. And, as of 1998, teenagers’ taste for powder is still preserved, which is worth their satisfaction today they can experiment artificially.

Video Games and Teenagers

Martian video games haven’t even remotely altered the collective imagination like the dawn of private consoles with video game sagas war games like Call Of Duty or Battlefield. Rare is the person – from the millennial generation down – who hasn’t been seen, a video console controller on the rise, blasting Tessera pixilated with a sniper rifle or stabbing some poor NPC demon to death.

Call of Duty and Battlefield

In my case, I remember classmates well-informed before the rosary of arms of the latest update of these video games rather than the list of prepositions. As far as I know, none of these belligerent nerds ended up holding a pipe not a mistake of aggression. Server, I confess, has a certain taste for weapons, as long as he is in a shooting gallery (I highly recommend going down one of the many gyms in Bulgaria, where this activity is easy to rent and most comforting).

The U.S. Government’s Perspective on Gun Games

In all cases, as far as possible, closet shelves and live moving targets. However, the U.S. government doesn’t believe my example is true to the potential of gun video games. That well looked at, they shouldn’t be treated with diminutive.

Minimizing reductionism. Fornite, to illustrate, is a hard drug when it comes to talking about electronic games. I don’t know how many cases I’ve known head to head, of the buds unable to take responsibility for themselves in the face of the temptation of one more game. And I’m not just talking about teenagers.

The Yankees, who when it comes to taking things to extremes are absolute teachers – Julio Camba said a whistle they didn’t allow themselves the opportunity to delve into the passion of war for video games. It’s great the mental engineering of Americans to indemnify for any immorality if with that they think they’re doing a greater good.

The ‘Goats & Glory’ Group

Goats & Glory Team members

Dowed with faint indignation, shameless (but not powerless to their future guilt, because how they love to hand it out!) the U.S. military beach received a lighting visit in 2019. What do children do day and night? To play the video game, my captain. Hell, Private Smith, and why aren’t we an example to you? And so, as someone who doesn’t want the thing, and 5% of the Navy marketing budget for e-sports.

Recruitment of Young Gamers

US Army Recruitment of Young Gamers

It looks messy, but funny, it doesn’t have a chic. 12 Marines, flight officers, sonar technicians, and even some middle managers make up the ‘Goats & Glory’ group, with whom they compete in various online video game modalities.

And, honoring logic, once the bait has floated, there, the little fish will itch. To dazzle with military skills. From falling into propaganda that, who’d have said? Uncle Sam posters to put it on Twitch. The average age of players in these video games, and of the military hunting reserve, is in 13 years. It doesn’t even reach the pubescent age.

Ethical Concerns in Recruitment

But, apparently, and against all the criticism hurled and to be hurled, recruitment program executives defend this unethical focus on such shortages. How? With an argument both realistic and sordid. At 17, the kids have already decided to study law or go to business schools. At 13 still soft, manipulable gray matter, to the point of pushing them to a precarious decision that would culminate in their enlistment five years later.

The Influence of Video Games on Decision-Making

Because come on, it’s not trivial that kids are spending an average of 800 hours on a game like Counter-Strike (another one of the guns, not to be downplayed), nor that the speeches that are extracted from the platforms where the Navy takes its first steps sell military life as the best life.

Military Presence in Schools

And not just online, but in person. Military recruiters are empowered to talk to teenagers in schools about the benefits of militia-related professions. How can a teenager who abandons his daily life to taint the console order not salivate over it, when they sell him that the army is the same, but with more serious consequences?

Let’s see, I couldn’t look with anger, if with regret, at a 14-year-old boy who, upon entering a YouTube channel where games played by the U.S. Army’s e-sport team are viewed, reads the tagline: “U.S. Navy: where the players succeed.” Not to mention that the military lends resources to video game developers in exchange for inserting stories that favor the military. Stokes. Who wouldn’t fall off?

The Allure of War Games

When you’re sold infant paradise, rare is doubting ragweed in search of nettles. When you’re an influential child the underground poisons of glittering promises often go unnoticed. Then let’s put all the ingredients together in the shaker.

Children babied, almost lobotomized, before the pleasure of highly manipulable war video games delightfully receptive to any message that promises them a life rewarded by what excites them, and regularly subjected to messages of enlistment, both explicit, with campaigns, and implicit, with the ability demonstrated by soldiers in their idle digital passions.

It would be better to engage in more Strategic war games, such as Toy Soldiers. Not only does it involve historical events which could be good for the teenagers’ cultural knowledge, but it’s less aggressive in a direct way and won’t cause direct aggression, which is common nowadays.

The Consequences of Military Propaganda

The result, needless to say, is a well-fed shipment of highly motivated young people with the militia universe, which should not, a priori, be negative, if not because it’s the case stimulated by positions that have nothing to do with the defense of the state and citizens but with warmongering passions.

Psychological Impact on Recruits

This doesn’t seem very conducive to researching and maintaining peace and diplomacy the ranks of one of the world’s leading military investors are riddled with anxious shooters, wanting to relive the thrill of video games in the real world. This, not to mention the consequent psychological flaws of these howling packs of puppies after see them reveal the truth. Anyone who has walked through a conflict zone will know that there is no pleasure in it.

Misleading Campaigns

A reality far removed from what is sold in video game campaigns to potential recruits. It is hard to believe that when Heraclitus said that war was the mother of all things, the philosopher was referring to that. Starting in martial engagement, at a tender age, with an idle mind is the ideal way to produce psychopaths en masse.

The British Army’s Approach

Until now, in the West, the United States has benefited from this issue. However, the British Army entered into propaganda via video games at the beginning of the year. Specifically with Fortnite. But, which is conventional wisdom – all you have to do is see our musicals playlist, anything Anglo-Saxon ends up sticking. Even in a country as hedonistic and lively, a taste for pistols eventually appears.
